Murmur

Murmur is a 10-second animated horror story that explores the haunting journey of a young girl venturing into an abandoned village, drawn by the myth of a Windigo. As the gate slams shut behind her, she is faced not just with a mythical creature but her own deepest fear.

The animation is a personal interpretation of Joe Totiono & Brashtracks’ chilling soundtrack, blending eerie whispers and the sounds of creaking doors to create an unsettling atmosphere.

Style

The visual style combines hand-drawn pencil illustrations, digital painting, and video, using oil and gouache textures for the characters and watercolor for the snowy backdrop, creating a striking contrast between softness and hardness. The color palette, mixing light shades with deep shadows, enhances the sense of beauty tinged with unrest.

This project, created for my portfolio to showcase my unique style and animation skills, highlights my background in comic art, storyboarding, and character development, while pushing my boundaries with Adobe After Effects and digital painting. Through this piece, I aim to evoke a sense of thrill, suspense, and lingering unease, inviting the viewer to fill in the unsettling conclusion themselves.
